History of Willowdale Lawn Bowling Club
More than 60 years as members of
Willowdale, North York and the City of Toronto

Original letter from the Parks Commissioner of North York that led to the establishment of the Willowdale Lawn Bowling Club.
Willowdale Lawn Bowling Club was formed in 1962. Originally, the club occupied 5090 Yonge Street in North York, which we all now know as Mel Lastman Square.

In the late 1970s, an arrangement was made with Toronto Burying Grounds (now Mount Pleasant Group) for the City of North York to lease the current space at 150 Beecroft Road. This agreement was in place when Willowdale hosted the World Women’s Lawn Bowling Championships in 1981.

In 1984, the City of North York signed a 99-year lease with the cemetery to enable lawn bowling to be played at 150 Beecroft Road for generations into the future.

Willowdale Lawn Bowling Club celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2022. The club received well wishes from the prime minister, the premier of Ontario and the mayor of Toronto.

We look forward to another 60 years at the site, providing fitness and fun to generations of lawn bowlers into the future.
